BLOG: How to write your release like an Associated Press story
Reporters are in the business of reporting news, not promoting companies. If your release is written like a news story, some outlets will literally cut and paste it. On the other hand, if it looks like company promotion, they probably won’t take the time to rewrite it.
BLOG: AI in public relations: the human element is key
Every day now, PR pros rely on AI to help them craft pitches, write press releases and generate ideas for social media copy. But other types of predictive AI models have the potential to be equally, if not more impactful on the profession.
BLOG: AI in public relations: how language models go wrong
Artificial intelligence has been all over the news in recent months since the public launch of chatGPT and other large language models based on OpenAI’s Generative Pretrained Transformer (GPT) model. While these tools have the potential to change the way public relations is performed, there are many pitfalls to watch out for in the short term.
pv magazine: Venture capitalist sees billion-dollar opportunities for solar and storage innovators
Rapid changes are underway for local solar and storage, as innovations drive down costs and create new markets for hardware and services, says Bill Nussey in the book Freeing Energy.
The former technology CEO and venture capitalist describes dozens of local energy opportunities, projecting that each represents a market of at least a billion dollars of annual revenue.
pv magazine: Urban Electric Power’s long-term storage solution takes battery storage back to the basics
On a quest to set themselves apart and find the optimal storage solution, companies have toyed with existing battery chemistries and invented their own. One startup, backed by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), has found an approach that’s been in front of us the whole time.
That company is Urban Electric Power and its technology is alkaline batteries – think AA in a flashlight. Just saying “alkaline” doesn’t tell the full story, however, as Sanjoy Banerjee, CEO and Ann Marie Augustus, VP of operations told pv magazine.
Solar Tribune: Governments vs. Corporations vs. Individuals: Who Should Be Leading the Fight Against Climate Change?
For companies looking to embrace climate action, just putting solar panels on your roof isn’t necessarily enough.
“Making changes to reduce carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions can be really complicated. Having that energy knowledge, whether in-house or outsourced to experts, is critical because it’s not something you can just figure out on your own without the expertise. So, when some businesses talk about net-zero carbon goals, they may only be thinking of their energy bill but that’s just a small piece of the pie in the context of their entire supply chain and corporate energy footprint.” – Lauren Glickman, Managing Partner at RenewComm

Energy Wire: Industry Expert Interview: Chad Farrell, CEO and Founder of Encore Renewable Energy
We’re excited to kick off 2021 with our first Industry Expert Interview of the year. Last fall we had the opportunity to chat with Chad Farrell, the CEO and Founder of Encore Renewable Energy, an innovative, integrated clean energy services company. Encore also happens to be a fellow Vermont-based certified B Corporation.
Renewable Energy World: Green hydrogen, Holy Grail for long-term energy storage, getting supermajors’ attention
Joe Biden has promised that the first day he is President, he will rejoin America to the Paris climate agreement. More than that, he can use the power of the presidency to drive the adoption of clean technologies, such as the hydrogen fuel projects that are now advancing worldwide.
Because the giant blades spinning in the wind and the fields of solar panels that are now part of our geography could be doing a lot more for us. When the electricity they generate doesn’t match moment-by-moment demand, it could power electrolyzers that split plain water into oxygen and “green” hydrogen – a fuel you can store for next week, and next season.
pv-magazine: Is your company capturing the 2020 safe harbor?
In this webinar, we discuss with Paul Wormser of Clean Energy Associates and Elias Hinckley of K&L Gates the IRS Safe Harbor Provision for Solar Energy Projects and how to take advantage of it. The presenters also cover the “5% rule” and how minimal upfront investment can qualify a project for the full 26% ITC and maximize savings. In addition, the presentation provides comprehensive coverage of both the Continuous Construction clause and Independent Safe Harbor Verification, two other critical aspects of ensuring your project qualifies for the full 2020 Investment Tax Credit.
Energy News Network: After decade-long solar boom, Vermont installers worry about shrinking support
Chad Farrell, founder and CEO of Encore Renewables, which built the YMCA project, said he worries Vermont is “in a state of correction” after its decade-long solar boom. The rates paid for utility customers’ surplus solar power have been stepped down since 2018, with more reductions possible.
pv-tech: Polysilicon pricing expected to remain rocky for six months, but more supply is on the way
The solar industry experienced another polysilicon price shock in August, as news outlets reported Tongwei halting production at its 20,000-ton polysilicon facility in Sichuan, China, following flood warnings. Joseph C. Johnson, technology and quality senior analyst at Clean Energy Associates, describes what affects the price of PV solar cells and how long these prices will last, in a two-part series for PV Tech.
Bloomberg: Oil & Gas Majors Pivoting to Renewables in Pandemic: Q&A
The global pandemic of 2020 has slowed down demand for oil and gas but provided a big boost for renewables, said Mona Dajani, partner and global head of energy and infrastructure at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP in New York.
Fossil-fuel companies that saw oil futures drop below zero in April are pivoting toward wind and solar in a big way, Dajani, one of the leading deal makers in the renewable energy industry, said in a phone interview with BloombergNEF in June. She is also seeing storage increasingly bundled into packages with wind and solar.
Vermont Business Magazine: How Vermont can fuel our economic recovery with local renewable energy
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our lives in immeasurable and lasting ways, but now more than ever we need to do better. Now is the time to build a reliable carbon-free grid with solar and wind power paired with robust energy storage and control technologies. Now is the time to electrify our thermal and transportation sectors. And now is the time for action, as we need to do all of the above in a very short amount of time to stave off the worst impacts of climate change that will be experienced by our kids and their kids
